Unicode bullet point generator lists that survive the paste

LinkedIn, X and Instagram have no bullet button, and a hyphen list looks flat. Paste your list once and get it back with arrows, checks, sparkles or numbers, one version per row.

Bullet point copy and paste

When writing in social posts, bio fields, chat messages, or plain-text editors, you can copy and paste bullet points directly from the styles below:

Row Example Good for
Arrows → Write things down Steps, workflows and key takeaways
Triangles ▸ Write things down Compact, modern bullet lists
Sparkles ✦ Write things down Feature launches and highlights
Check marks ✓ Write things down Benefit summaries and completed items
Round dots • Write things down Standard formal lists and professional bios
Circled numbers ① Write things down Sequential processes and ranked items
Emoji numbers 1️⃣ Write things down Eye-catching social threads and reels

Indented lines stay indented, so nested sub-bullets keep their hierarchy. Blank lines between items are preserved and do not disrupt sequential numbering.

Markdown and Discord bullet lists

Different platforms format lists according to their own rules:

  • Markdown bullet list syntax: In standard Markdown, GitHub, and Reddit, start any line with a hyphen (- ), asterisk (* ), or plus sign (+ ) followed by a space to create a formatted list item. Indent by two or four spaces to create nested sub-bullets.
  • Discord bullet points: Discord chat supports Markdown lists: type - or * at the start of a line to generate a native indented bullet point. For Discord channel topics, server rules, or embeds where markdown list indentation fails, paste Unicode symbols (like •, ▸, or ✦) directly.
  • Alt codes for bullet points: On Windows with a full keyboard, hold Alt and type 0149 on the numeric keypad to output •. On a Mac keyboard, press Option + 8.

Why the bullet must be a character

Rich text word processors draw bullet lists using structural layout margins, which vanish the moment text is pasted into an unformatted social media box. A Unicode bullet symbol is an actual character rather than external styling. Because it lives directly inside the text string, it travels intact into LinkedIn posts, Instagram bios, YouTube descriptions, or email subject lines.

Writing a list that gets read

  1. Lead with a line of context. A list with no opening line reads like unfinished notes. Add a concise sentence above it to explain the value.
  2. Keep items parallel. Begin every bullet with the same part of speech: all action verbs or all nouns. Parallel construction makes lists far easier to scan.
  3. Keep it between three and seven items. Short lists fit comfortably on a mobile screen without forcing the reader to scroll past your conclusion.
  4. Mind platform character limits. Each bullet symbol and space counts against character budgets. Select your target platform under Posting to to ensure your text fits.

To display progress, use the strikethrough checklist maker, which ticks and crosses out finished items. To make the first letters of every word bold for skimming, try the bionic reading converter. AI drafts with Markdown hyphens convert directly in the ChatGPT to LinkedIn formatter.

Questions people ask

How do I add bullet points on LinkedIn?

LinkedIn posts have no list formatting, so the bullet has to be a character. Paste your list here, copy the row you like and paste it into the post. Each line starts with a real Unicode symbol, which LinkedIn shows exactly as written on desktop and mobile.

What is the Alt code for a bullet point?

On Windows, hold Alt and type 0149 (or Alt + 7) on the numeric keypad to produce a standard bullet point (•). On a Mac, press Option + 8. In plain text places without a keypad, copy the symbol directly from this page.

How do I make bullet points in Discord?

In Discord, start a line with a hyphen or asterisk followed by a space (- item or * item) to render a native Discord bullet list. You can also paste Unicode bullet symbols (•, ▸, →, ✓) directly into your message or server channel topic.

Do I need to remove my old bullets first?

No. Hyphens, asterisks, plus signs, numbers like 1. or 2), check boxes and most bullet symbols at the start of a line are recognised and replaced. Lines without any marker get the new bullet added.

What happens after ⑳ in the circled numbers?

Unicode has circled numbers only up to 20, and keycap emoji only up to 🔟. Longer lists continue as plain 21., 22. and so on, so nothing is lost.

Are Unicode bullets read by screen readers?

Mostly yes. Symbols such as → and ✓ are read by name, like "right arrow" or "check mark", which can sound repetitive. Round dots • are the most neutral choice when accessibility matters.
