Six kinds of bubble
| Style | Looks like | Cases | Characters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bubble | ⓑⓤⓑⓑⓛⓔ | lower and upper | U+24B6 to U+24E9 |
| Bubble, filled | 🅑🅤🅑🅑🅛🅔 | capitals only | U+1F150 to U+1F169 |
| Parenthesized | ⒝⒰⒝⒝⒧⒠ | lower and upper | U+249C to U+24B5, U+1F110 to U+1F129 |
| Ringed | b⃝u⃝b⃝b⃝l⃝e⃝ | any letter, any alphabet | letter + U+20DD |
| Squared | 🄱🅄🄱🄱🄻🄴 | capitals only | U+1F130 to U+1F149 |
| Squared, filled | 🅱🆄🅱🅱🅻🅴 | capitals only | U+1F170 to U+1F189 |
The ringed row works differently from the rest. Instead of swapping letters, it adds a combining enclosing circle (U+20DD) after each one, the same trick this site uses for strikethrough. That means it works on any character, accented letters and other scripts included. The catch is that many fonts draw the ring a little off-centre, so it looks hand-made rather than neat.
Numbers in bubbles
Outline bubbles have digits: ⓪ ① ② ③ ④ ⑤ ⑥ ⑦ ⑧ ⑨. Filled ones use the dingbat set ⓿ ❶ ❷ ❸ ❹ ❺ ❻ ❼ ❽ ❾. Unicode also has circled numbers up to ㊿, but they’re single characters for whole numbers, not digits, so the generator writes 12 as ①② rather than ⑫. Parenthesized digits ⑴ to ⑼ exist; there is no parenthesized zero, so 0 stays plain.
Where bubble text breaks
- Emoji takeover. 🅰 🅱 🅾 🅿 can turn into coloured emoji, as explained above. If that happens, use the outline row.
- Width. Every bubble is wider than a normal letter. A bio that fits in plain text can wrap onto an extra line.
- Search and screen readers. A search for “bubble” won’t find ⓑⓤⓑⓑⓛⓔ, and screen readers may read each one as “circled latin small letter b”. Keep important words plain.
- Older devices. The filled and squared sets were added to Unicode later than the outline set. Very old phones may show boxes.
Good uses
Bubble letters suit short, playful things: a name in a Discord server, a one-word Instagram highlight title, a label in a group chat, a list numbered ① ② ③. They don’t suit long sentences, which become tiring to read fast.
For more looks in the same spirit, try wide text for a spaced-out vaporwave style or preppy fonts for script with hearts and bows. To turn bubble text back into plain letters, paste it into fancy text to normal text.
Questions people ask
How does bubble text work? Is it a font?
It isn’t a font. Unicode, the standard list of characters every device shares, includes circled letters made for numbered lists and labels. The generator swaps each of your letters for its circled twin, so the circles travel with the text wherever you paste it.
Why can’t I get lowercase filled bubble letters?
Because Unicode doesn’t have them. Filled (negative) circled letters and both kinds of squared letters exist only as capitals, so the generator uses capitals for those rows whatever you type. Outline bubbles have both cases.
Why do some bubble letters look like emoji?
🅰, 🅱, 🅾 and 🅿 are also emoji (blood types and parking), so phones like to draw them as red or blue squares. The filled squared row adds an invisible “show as text” character after those four, which keeps them plain on most devices. A few apps ignore it.
Does bubble text work on Instagram, Discord and WhatsApp?
Yes, in posts, comments, bios, display names and messages. Most sites block it in usernames, which only allow plain letters and numbers. Bubble letters are also wider than normal letters, so long lines wrap sooner on a phone.
Is this the same as bubble letters I can draw or print?
No. This makes text you can copy and paste, not an image. For a poster, a sign or a card, use a rounded “bubble” typeface in a design app, or draw the letters. Pasted bubble text can’t be resized like a font in those apps.
