ChatGPT to LinkedIn formatter Markdown in, clean post out

AI tools write in Markdown, and LinkedIn, X and Instagram show it as raw asterisks and hashes. Paste the text here and the markup turns into bold, italic and struck-through letters that survive the paste.

What it converts

The tool reads the Markdown that AI chat tools produce and turns each piece into something LinkedIn can show:

You paste You get How
**bold** or __bold__ ๐—ฏ๐—ผ๐—น๐—ฑ Mathematical sans-serif bold letters
*italic* or _italic_ ๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜ข๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ค Sans-serif italic letters
***both*** ๐™—๐™ค๐™ฉ๐™ Bold italic letters
~~old~~ oฬถlฬถdฬถ Combining long stroke, U+0336
`code` ๐šŒ๐š˜๐š๐šŽ Monospace letters
## Heading ๐—›๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด Bold line, hashes removed
- item โ€ข item A real bullet, indented ones get โ—ฆ
[text](https://โ€ฆ) text (https://โ€ฆ) Link written out, since LinkedIn wonโ€™t hide URLs

Anything that isnโ€™t Markdown passes through untouched, including emoji, line breaks and hashtags. Asterisks left over after conversion, the classic ** with no partner, are deleted.

Strike through just a few words

Wrap any words in double tildes and only those get the line: Join us Friday Saturday at 8 comes out with Friday crossed out and the rest plain. This is the quickest way to make a correction or a price drop inside a longer post. The main strikethrough generator also has a Strike selection button that does the same thing by highlighting words.

Three versions at once

  • LinkedIn style, sans bold uses the sans-serif letters. They sit closest to the font LinkedIn uses, so bold words blend in.
  • Serif bold uses the classic bold letters, which stand out more on X and Threads.
  • Plain, Markdown removed keeps the words and drops the styling, for emails, CVs or anywhere styled letters would look out of place.

Before you post

Unicode letters are separate characters, not a font, and that has side effects worth knowing:

  1. Search. LinkedIn and X search match exact characters, so a bold keyword wonโ€™t be found by people searching for it. Keep the words you want to be found by in plain text.
  2. Screen readers. Some read styled letters normally, some spell them out letter by letter, and some skip them. Bold a hook, not your whole post.
  3. Character count. Bold and italic letters are one character each on LinkedIn, but each line mark in struck text adds one. Pick a platform under Posting to to check the limit.

Tidy the rest of the draft

AI drafts often carry more than Markdown. The em dash remover swaps โ€” for commas, semicolons or full stops, and the invisible character remover finds zero-width spaces and odd spaces that can break formatting or show up as boxes. Run them in that order and the post reads like you wrote it.

Questions people ask

Why does ChatGPT text show asterisks when I paste it into LinkedIn?

ChatGPT writes in Markdown, where **two asterisks** mean bold. The chat window renders that, but copying sometimes carries the raw symbols, and LinkedIn doesnโ€™t understand Markdown. It shows the asterisks as they are. This tool reads the Markdown and swaps it for Unicode letters that look bold or italic anywhere.

Does Unicode bold hurt reach on LinkedIn?

Thereโ€™s no published rule against it, but it has two real costs. Search inside LinkedIn wonโ€™t match bold words, because ๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜€ is a different string from lessons. And screen readers may spell the letters out or skip them. Bold a hook or a heading, not whole paragraphs.

Which row should I copy?

The sans bold row matches LinkedInโ€™s own font best, so bold words look native. Serif bold stands out more and suits X. The plain row strips the Markdown and keeps the words, for places where you want no styling at all, like an email or a CV.

Does it work for Claude, Gemini and Copilot text too?

Yes. They all write the same Markdown: asterisks for bold and italic, hashes for headings, hyphens for bullets and backticks for code. Paste from any of them.

What about em dashes from AI text?

This tool leaves punctuation alone. To swap the em dashes for commas or full stops, run the result through the em dash remover. To find hidden characters like zero-width spaces, use the invisible character remover.
